This post will begin with deepest apologies for an error made on today’s Austin Music Minute. Your humble AMM host got a little ahead of herself and said the new album St. Mojo by Sweet Spirit is out today. Not the case; the official release date is April 7th, but that’s right around the corner.
Of course, the upcoming release calls for a major party, Sweet Spirit style. They have not just one, but two release shows at Barracuda, 611 E. 7th St., the first of which sold out pretty quickly. If you’re lucky enough to go to tonight’s show, you also get to see kaleidoscopic psych-folk gurus Tinnarose perform before they leave Austin, and enjoy sexy fun-fun times with Har Mar Superstar (the AMM, KUTX, Barracuda, Sweet Spirit and Tinnarose are not responsible for any of Har Mar’s discarded articles of clothing or general madness that ensues).
Annnnd tomorrow night’s Sweet Spirit shindig will have some Chicago vibes in the mix. The Windy City’s mighty rock/punk/glam/garage warriors Absolutely Not are on the bill with former Chicagoans, power pop/punk freaks FOOLS. Doors open at 9 p.m., and as of this writing, tickets are still available.
Following the two nights of Austin-partying, Sweet Spirit heads out on a two-month tour to bring St. Mojo to the masses. Catch them while you can. Very recommended.
