It’s a story arc we’re all too familiar with: a youngster gets bit by the songwriting bug, outgrows their humble hometown opportunities, and hits it big after moving to a landmark musical hub. Well that’s one thing when it’s a statesider, but when someone uproots on an international level, you know it’s even more special.
Take for instance Judy Blank, the Netherlands-born singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist who latched onto Nashville’s Americana culture before switching things up and landing here in Austin. Blank’s bubbly personality, sonic quirks, and intrinsic talent have helped her fit right into the Live Music Capital, where she fully cemented her Austinite status with the release of Big Mood back in mid-August.
So needless to say, between an ACL Fest pop-up performance, a month-long Western European tour (plastic dinos in tow), and a return to Austin opening for Jon Muq at the 04 Center on January 9th, we were happy to host our November 2025 Artist of the Month – not only in Studio 1A – but as a Guest DJ for My KUTX. Judy says she’s not cut out for this kind of work…but she sure would’ve fooled us based on the caliber of the connections she drew for this eclectic hour of formative moments, recent inspirations, favorite collaborators, and more.
