My KUTX: Michael Corcoran

Michael Corcoran is one of Texas’ best music writers, known for his columns in The Austin American-Statesman and The Dallas Morning News as well as books and liner notes on early gospel pioneers Arizona Dranes and Washington Phillips. Recently, Corcoran updated his 2005 book All Over The Map: True Heroes Of Texas Music with a 2017 edition, featuring eighteen new chapters. He’s celebrating the release with a show at the Continental Club on Monday, June 19, featuring Shinyribs, Carolyn Wonderland, and Shawn y Ribs (that’s Shawn Sahm doing Doug Sahm covers backed by Shinyribs).

This week on My KUTX, Corcoran also takes us on a tour of Texas music, covering everything from jazz and conjunto to punk and gospel, while also finding the Lone Star connection in Simon & Garfunkel and the Rolling Stones. Hear his guest DJ set on Saturday, June 17 at 7 p.m. or listen anytime at the bottom of the page.
