My KUTX: Palo Duro

Palo Duro is the KUTX Artist of the Month for October.

After spending a decade in the bands the Glass Family and Gold Beach, Austin’s Michael Winningham started rethinking and reworking his musical direction. The path led him to Palo Duro, a new band that pulls from a lot of disparate influences and experiences on its debut album, Ryou Cannon. This week on My KUTX, Winningham explains what that process was like, and how everything from mysterious Nigerian funk, David Bowie’s sound and vision, and Kanye’s experimental side worked its way into Palo Duro. Hear Palo Duro’s guest DJ set on Saturday, October 14, 6-7 p.m. or anytime at the bottom of the page. Palo Duro plays Hotel Vegas on October 14 and our Studio 1A on October 24 at 7 p.m.
