My KUTX: Queue Queue

If the original punk impulse was all about economy of sound, then Austin’s Queue Queue are punk subversives. On Fang & Claw, the band’s second album, there’s a lot going on: primal rhythms, metallic guitars, three-part harmonies, and Claire Hamilton’s sardonic lyrics about misogyny, the mundane, and Oprah. The trio looks to punk’s past for inspiration, but brings bigger ideas to the table.

All three members–Claire, Mary Streepy, and Carrie Clark–take turns guest DJing this week on My KUTX. You can triangulate a lot of Queue Queue’s sound in this playlist, from the Breeders’ pop pleasure to My Bloody Valentine’s wall-of-noise to Courtney Barnett’s dark humor. Hear Queue Queue’s My KUTX on Saturday, July 6 at 6 p.m. or listen at any time in the player below.
