It’s safe to say that Ray Wylie Hubbard is a Texas legend, but it’s not as if anyone handed him that title. He worked for it, constantly touring across the country and writing and recording new music. He’s played music professionally for nearly 50 years now, and has been at the forefront of several movements within country music, especially the progressive country music movement of the 1970s. Each of the more than fifteen albums he has put out throughout his career–including this year’s stellar The Ruffian’s Misfortune–have explored different facets of the country genre, all the while maintaining his gritty and bluesy playing style. He’s part of Willie’s 4th of July Picnic this year, so we thought it’d be good excuse to revisit Hubbard’s fun (and funny) guest DJ set. Tune in this Saturday at 6 p.m. or listen anytime below his playlist.
