Skateland

My KUTX // February 25, 2023

Skateland is the KUTX Artist of the Month for February 2023, powered by PNC Bank.

Dorian Williams II only started Skateland about a year and a half ago, but he’s been a deep listener most of his life. Dorian grew up in Las Vegas, hearing Fleetwood Mac a lot around the house and obsessing over Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs while wandering his own suburbs. A stint as a college radio DJ at Texas Tech deepened his appreciation for indie rock and electronic music, and that’s where his own songs as Skateland sit. His self-produced debut EP, New Wave Revival, has the fuzzy charm of shoegaze but filtered through a pop lens. Dorian celebrates the release with a full band version of Skateland at the Far Out Lounge on Tuesday, February 28.

This week on My KUTX, Dorian returns to his DJ roots with his own guest DJ set, digging deep into how bands like Vampire Weekend, Alvvays, and Austin’s Dayglow have made him the musician that he is. Hear Skateland’s My KUTX on Saturday, February 25 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime at the top of the page.
