Timothy Braun

My KUTX // April 22, 2023

Timothy Braun is the Visiting Assistant Professor Of Creative Writing at St. Edward’s University here in Austin. He’s a playwright and contributor to our colleagues down the hall Texas Standard as well as the Austin Chronicle, Austin Monthly, and more. But some might know him from his wonderful essays for The New York Times’ “Modern Love” column. They chronicle his relationship with his dog, Dusty, and fair warning, they’re tearjerkers (in a life-affirming way).

This week on My KUTX, Braun takes the wheel as our guest DJ. He structures his set about love in three parts, like a good essay or play: everything is established in Act I with love songs by the National and Death Cab For Cutie; everything falls apart in Act II courtesy of Queens Of The Stone Age and Taylor Swift; and everything comes back together in a new way in Act III, soundtracked by Sufjan Stevens and the Magnetic Fields. Hear Timothy Braun’s My KUTX on Saturday, April 22 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime in the player above.
