Vintage Jay is the KUTX Artist of the Month for September, powered by PNC Bank.
Vintage Jay was born in Mexico and grew up in North Austin, and he started out as a poet before incorporating his poems into rap. He’s now well-positioned in Austin’s hip hop scene, with a new collaborative EP with Blakchyl coming out Sep 27. You can also catch Vintage Jay live at St. Elmo Brewing on Oct 10th.
In this guest DJ set, Vintage Jay offers up an hour of his influences. A lot of his love of classic hip-hop came from riding around with his uncle, and Jay soon started studying different cadences and flows to arrive at his own voice. Hear Vintage Jay’s My KUTX on Saturday, September 21 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime right here.
