Zettajoule is the KUTX Artist of the Month for November.
Austin’s Zettajoules make pop music that’s skewed around the edges. Part of that is due to economic circumstances: when Meggan Carney and Matthew Sheffer sat down to record a batch of songs for their EP Always Looking Up, they simply couldn’t afford a fancy studio. So they captured the whole thing on their iPhones, and the result is a collection of songs that are catchy but smudged with homemade fingerprints.
Carney and Sheffer bring that same energy to their guest DJ set this week. A lot of the songs they pick are home-recorded bits of inspired fun, and you can see where they draw some influence from. Hear Zettajoule’s My KUTX on Saturday, November 24 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime at the bottom of the page.
