KUTX host Jay Trachtenberg lets us in on the best songs ever…this week!

Ghostland Observatory – “Miss Abyss”

Austin’s Ghostland Observatory is a two-man outfit comprised of the extraordinary singer and occasional guitarist Aaron Behrens and Thomas Ross Turner, who commands all the electronics. They are such an exciting band to see live, and “Miss Abyss” is bound to get you out of your seat.

Third Root – “The Next Kendrick”

Next up is the Central Texas hip hop trio known as Third Root. The two frontmen, Charles Peters, and Marco Cervantes, are teachers by day. Consequently, their lyrics are socially-conscious, positive, and they speak truth to power. The internationally-renowned DJ Chicken George makes the beats, and it creates a truly potent sound. Check out “The Next Kendrick.”

Rhett Miller – “Total Disaster”

The last song is from Austin-born, Dallas-raised, and now New York-based Rhett Miller. He’s best known as the frontman for the popular alternative country band the Old 97’s, but Rhett has quite the solo career too where he can explore other creative aspects of his talent. Like much of his music, “Total Disaster” rocks, but it’s also a very personal song.
