KUTX’s Music Director Jeff McCord shares his can’t miss artists for weekend two of the Austin City Limits Festival, with the exception of Willie Nelson, since EVERYONE knows not to miss him.
A canny and vivd songwriter who’s SXSW shows and debut alum. “Emotions And Math”, were both real surprises. Not sure how she’ll adapt to the festival din, but definitely a talent to watch.
Another weekend two exclusive I was sorry to miss. No secret that KUTX loves the guy – his album Malibu is everyone’s favorite, and his genre-bending fluidity has made the rapper an ‘overnight success’, though Paak actually spent years laboring in obscurity. Live, he’s a force majeure, too.
Mind -blowing last week, if a bit uneven. There has never been a turn this band hasn’t taken. Always fascinating, but you gotta keep up.
What little I’ve heard so far of this big-voiced Nashville by way of Little Rock singer all screams big things to come.
Duh, right? But EASILY the best thing I saw last weekend, in fact, one of the best things I’ve seen this year. A one-of-a-kind band at their absolute creative peak. Miss them at your own peril.
Here’s a Spotify playlist of all these artists so you can pre-game for the festival:
