In 2018, Erika Wennerstrom, lead singer of the Heartless Bastards, released Sweet Unknown, her debut solo album written after a soul changing shift in perception brought on by an ayahuasca trip. The album is beautiful, both lyrically and musically, with Wennerstrom singing about embracing self-care and the unknown. A timeless message, but one that seems especially appropriate now as many are forced to keep company with only themselves. Some are seizing this as an opportunity for self reflection, and realizing it is a constant up and down and sometimes just straight across boring like the drive to San Antonio down I-35, this album reminds us that being kind to ourselves is key while we continue this journey called life.
