Grab a beer and find your voice with a rock sing-along and fun group voice lesson led by Rock It Choir’s directors. Each month, Choir at the Cactus will feature a song from a different artist, and proceeds will benefit an Austin music non-profit. At the July event, you’ll learn a song from The Beatles, and proceeds will benefit KUTX. All ages event.

Thirty years after photographer and visual artist Robert Mapplethorpe’s untimely death, it’s difficult to turn away from the compelling emotional complexity of his influential body of work.  In this new performance piece, music, poetry, and photography come together in a theatrical context, exploring the impact Mapplethorpe’s work had on the lives and careers of composer Bryce Dessner (The National) and librettist Korde Arrington Tuttle.

Renowned avant-garde jazz drummer Andrew Cyrille, whose associations have ranged from a long, vintage collaboration with pianist Cecil Taylor to performing with legendary musicians including Rahshan Roland Kirk and Freddie Hubbard, brings his quartet to the McCullough Theatre stage. Members of this all-star quartet include guitar luminary Bill Frisell, one of the most sought-after guitar voices in contemporary music; keyboardist Richard Teitelbaum, known for bringing the first Moog Synthesizer to Europe as well as being a founding member of the seminal electronic music group Musica Elettronica Viva; and highly in-demand bassist Ben Street.
