On Saturday, August 24, 2024, MeadowFest will bring some of Austin’s best talent to The Far Out Lounge’s two stages while celebrating the life of Meadow Goodman and raising awareness and funds for mental health.
MeadowFest will feature a well-curated lineup of musical performances by Grammy-winners Grupo Fantasma, July KUTX Artist of the Month Superfonicos, indie-cumbia favorites Como Las Movies with Sabrina Ellis (of A Giant Dog), Austin Chronicle cover band Nemegata, globe-trotting psych jam act The Point, alt-pop artist Somebody Someone (Aubrey Hays) and School of Rock, with additional performers and speakers to be announced. Out Youth Austin and the SIMS Foundation, two organizations dedicated to supporting mental health in our community, will receive 100% of the proceeds after event expenses have been met.
MeadowFest was created in memory of Meadow Goodman, the 15-year-old daughter of local musician Greg Goodman, who tragically lost her battle with mental illness on August 12, 2023. Goodman and his wife Lulu have since dedicated themselves to turning their grief into action by supporting mental health and suicide prevention organizations in the community. “If you’re uncomfortable in this world, there are all kinds of resources for you, and (you) shouldn’t be afraid to reach out to those resources,” Goodman said in an October 1st, 2023 Austin American Statesman story. “Talk to a friend. Talk to other peers. Talk to adults. You need to talk to someone.” The chosen beneficiaries, SIMS Foundation and Out Youth Austin, reflect Meadow’s passions and identity, as the bright and talented young teen was a queer musician herself. The SIMS Foundation provides mental health and substance use recovery services for musicians and music industry professionals, while Out Youth Austin promotes the well-being of sexual and gender minority youth. Both organizations rely on discretionary funding, making fundraising events like MeadowFest crucial for their continued support.
