Alice Coltrane was born in Detroit in 1937 and eventually moved to New York to pursue music. She met with John Coltrane in the 60s and became his second wife. She was an accomplished Pianist, Organist, as well as a Harpist, which was unusual for her time. She crafted both meditational and spiritual jazz. Alice inspired many jazz artists and other varied artists such as The Grateful Dead.
