KUTX is teaming up with NPR Music and VuHaus to bring you the best of SXSW 2018


KUTX Live at Four Seasons – Wednesday, March 14, through Saturday, March 17

KUTX Live at The Four Seasons continues in 2018 with four days of early morning broadcasts live from the Four Seasons ballroom from 7 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, through Friday, March 16; and from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 17. The event is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission to the main show, which includes a breakfast taco, KIND granola bar and bottomless coffee, is $15 per adult or $5 for children 12 and under. All KUTX Live event proceeds in 2018 will benefit the Trail Foundation to support the organization’s Brazos Bluff project. Get more info on the live broadcast HERE.


#SXSBreaks at Karma Lounge – Friday, March 16 (8 p.m. – 2 a.m.)

Confucius and Fresh, hosts of KUTX’s hip-hop show “The Breaks,” have curated an official SXSW showcase featuring nothing but Austin hip-hop, soul, and R&B acts. Public Radio Day Stage at Austin Convention Center – Friday, March 16

WFUV/New York, KXT/Dallas, and KUTX/Austin will provide a live on-air broadcast of the Public Radio Day Stage.  Other stations participating at the stage are WXPN/Philadelphia, Radio Milwaukee, NV89/Reno and opbmusic/Portland, OR

From the Hills With Love at Plum Creek Sound – Saturday, March 17

On Saturday, March 17th, 2018, Israel Nash once again swings open the gates to his Hill Country ranch to host the return of Plum Creek Sound Presents: From The Hills With Love with performances from Israel Nash + The Rancheros, The Bright Light Social Hour, Erika Wennerstrom, Whiskey Shivers, Walker Lukens, Curtis Roush, Kaela Sinclair, Sanco Loop, and King Cardinal + special guests, a dedicated kids area, artisanal merchants and pop-up performances and KUTX sessions throughout the day. NPR Music Showcase at Stubbs – Wednesday, March 14 (8 p.m. – 2 a.m.)

On Wednesday, March 14, public radio stations and NPR Music will take over Stubb’s BBQ indoor and outdoor stages to present a genre-blending roster of musicians and emerging artists.

Outdoor Stage: Lucy Dacus, Superorganism, Low, Okkervil River, Tank and the Bangas, and August Greene.

Indoor “Slingshot” Stage: Mt. Joy, Hembree, WebsterX, Liz Brasher, Gracie and Rachel


This Song Panel in the Fairmont Wisteria Room – Thursday, March 15

KUTX’s podcast This Song invites artists to talk about the songs that formed and transformed them. Sit in on a live taping of the podcast to hear Minneapolis hip-hop artist and writer Dessa talk to Elizabeth McQueen about a life-changing song, how it’s affected her creative process and the impact it had on her new record, “Chime.” More info HERE.


SXSW FOR THE KIDS

Spare the Rock Spoil the Child, our Sunday-evening kids’ show, will offer kid-friendly (but parent-friendly, too) sets between the main-stage acts each day. Those interested in attending only the children’s shows may purchase a wristband for $5 per adult or child; benefits still include the above breakfast treats, however the wristband does not allow entry to the main stage.
