Black Joe Lewis at KUTX 8.26.13

Austin band Black Joe Lewis may have flown under the radar for the past year, but they’re releasing their new album, “Electric Slave,” late this August to much anticipation. Black Joe Lewis first picked up a guitar while working in a pawn shop in Austin, and he began playing with local acts such as The Weary Boys and Walter Daniels. The full band eventually formed in Austin in 2007, and citing inspiration from Howlin’ Wolf, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, and Sam Cooke, their music is an exhilarating combination of funk, soul, and raw electric blues. They released their album “Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!” in 2009, followed up by the widely well-received “Scandalous” in 2011, both produced by Jim Eno of Spoon.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the new album since the recent release of the funky, swag-filled single “Come To My Party,” and we were lucky enough to have Black Joe Lewis perform in our studio this month. They also perform at Waterloo Records on September 1st.  Be sure to check it out!
