My KUTX // June 6, 2020

Like many other music venues in town, the Cactus Cafe has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. Unlike many music venues in town, the Cactus operates as a non-profit – we are funded solely by ticket sales. We do not receive any revenue from the bar, nor do we receive funding from The University of Texas. If you can, please donate here. Thank you!

Carson McHone grew up in Austin, attending shows at the Cactus Cafe with her family. In fact, it was the “family affair” atmosphere of the Cactus that first drew her in. “It’s always been a very special spot,” she says, and in recent years, McHone has launched her own music career from the Cactus’ stage. This week on My KUTX, we’re reairing McHone’s 2018 guest DJ set, which features famed Cactus alumni like Townes Van Zandt and Lucinda Williams alongside McHone’s wide-ranging influences. Hear My KUTX on Saturday, June 6 at 6 p.m. or any time in the player above.
