Field Music

My KUTX // March 27, 2021

My favorite thing about Field Music is just how doggedly the band has followed its creative impulses, no matter how strange. Since 2004, brothers David and Peter Brewis have used their Sunderland, England studio as a sonic clubhouse, experimenting with sounds, textures, and genres. Listening to Field Music, you can tell the brothers are avid music fans and dedicated listeners first and foremost. They borrow ideas from psych rock, classical music, funk, electronic music, folk, and more, but what’s remarkable is how seamless it all sounds. Their tapestry-like albums always spotlight the band’s heart as well as the sonic vision.

On April 23, Field Music returns with Flat White Moon, just a year after the band’s WWI-inspired sound collage. This week on My KUTX, the brothers dive deep as our guest DJs. From ’80s pop productions and post-punk explorations to sounds first heard in their parents’ record collection, Field Music’s DJ set is an era-spanning adventure into their many influences. Hear Field Music’s My KUTX on Saturday, March 27 at 6 p.m. or anytime in the player above.
