JaRon Marshall

My KUTX // October 31, 2020

Through his musical talent, JaRon Marshall connects the worlds of soul, jazz, and hip-hop. Born in Loreauville, Louisiana but now Austin-based, Marshall is an in-demand keyboard player, playing with Black Pumas and Nané, and an inventive beat producer. His two 2020 releases–The Gold Tapes, Vol. 1-3 and The Black Power Tape–are an intriguing blend of laid-back and hyper-focused, sounding like minimalist J Dilla or Madlib constructions. On The Black Power Tape, Marshall makes emotional, expressive beats, exploring feelings of rage, power, pride, and peace as a Black American.

This week on My KUTX, Marshall is our guest DJ, offering up a playlist covering his many influences: A Tribe Called Quest’s blend of jazz and hip-hop, Dr. John’s Louisiana brews, deep cut soul and funk, and more. Hear My KUTX on Saturday, October 31 at 6 p.m. or anytime at the top of the page.
