Kevin “Shinyribs” Russell is known as the front man of the musical combo, The Gourds. Born in Beaumont, he got his start as a young musician in Louisiana biker bars, and has since become a mainstay on the Austin music scene. Russell began performing solo shows under the pseudonym Shinyribs as early as 2006. The name was given to him by a transient in return for a meal of BBQ Russell provided to her. Shinyribs just released a fantastic new album called Gulf Coast Museum. We’re so glad Kevin decided to take over KUTX 98.9 for an hour to play an eclectic mix of his favorite music.
