My KUTX: Ley Line

Artist of the Month

My KUTX: Ley Line

Posted by on Oct 25, 2019

Ley Line (l-r: Maddy Froncek, Emilie Basez, Kate Robberson, Lydia Froncek) is the KUTX Artist of the Month for October. Photo by Julia Reihs/KUTX.

Ley Line formed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado, call Austin home, and draw from all over the world for their music. “Oxum,” the band’s first taste from their upcoming debut album, is rooted in Brazilian traditions and takes its name from the Afro-Brazilian deity for fresh water and rivers. But like a lot of folk artists before them, Ley Line draws attention to the overwhelming similarities between different types of folk music. You can hear this thread on the band’s guest DJ set, which connects Brazil with South Africa, North Carolina with France, and more. Hear Ley Line’s My KUTX on Saturday, October 26 at 6 p.m. or listen at any time in the player below. Catch Ley Line at the Parish on November 2.
