My KUTX: Magna Carda

On this year’s CirQlation, Austin rap luminaries Magna Carda hit a sweet spot between sonic exploration and live-band excitement. MC Megz Kelli is simply stunning, a rapid-fire truth-sayer on songs like “The Root,” and the band’s electricity has been honed thanks to constant touring and opening for fellow hybrid veterans Banks & Steelz.

Magna Carda is finishing up its strong year with a few local shows (plus they’re in the running for a grant from Black Fret). Catch a free afternoon set at Space 24 Twenty on Sunday, December 11 alongside the Octopus Project and Orthy, or find them at Empire Control Room on Thursday, December 15 with Capyac and Smile. And this week on My KUTX, we’re rebroadcasting a 2015 guest DJ set from producer/beatmaker Dougie Do and bassist Derek Van Wagner. Tune in for an hour of hand-picked songs on Saturday, December 10 or listen anytime at the bottom of the page.
