On Shearwater’s eighth album, Jet Plane And Oxbow, the Austin band sounds huge. They’re in full-on rock-and-roll mode, but Shearwater is also a deeply textural, thoughtful band. Frontman Jonathan Meiburg says he wanted to fit the sound of the album in the year 1980, when past and future technologies combined and produced some stunning work from artists like Brian Eno and Talking Heads.
For his guest DJ set, Meiburg picked some songs that influenced the making of the new record, as well some “wonderful music that’s meant a lot to me over the years.” Listen to this episode in the player at the bottom of the page.
