Sun June

My KUTX // February 20, 2021

For their new album Somewhere, Austin indie-pop quintet Sun June loosely themed the album around the concept of “prom.” “Prom isn’t all rosy and perfect,” says the band. “The songs show you the crying in the bathroom, the fear of dancing, the joy of a kiss – all the highs and all the lows.”

This week on My KUTX, Sun June’s singer/guitarist Laura Colwell takes the guest DJ controls and plays songs picked by her band. From Talking Heads’ jittery pop to Cat Power’s quiet confidence, this DJ set illustrates Sun June’s wide range of influences. Hear My KUTX on Saturday, February 20 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime in the player above.
