Børns 6.7.16

Growing up in South Florida, I was constantly in search of “drive-to-the-beach-with-the-windows-down” jams. Now that I’m older, I’m always on the look out for songs that get me out the door on a Friday night when I really just want to slip into a Netflix coma. To my surprise, BØRNS is perfect for both of these occasions.

Garrett Born’s debut studio album Dopamine has an infectious energy that’s sweeping the nation. Released back in October, the album immediately shot up to 24th on the charts. Then again, it speaks volumes when a debut is released on a label as well-known as Interscope Records – home to Gwen Stefani, Ellie Goulding, and  Tame Impala. Songs like “Past Lives,” resemble the 80s synthpop of early New Order, while hit “Electric Love” has lyrical similarities to sister trio HAIM. As electric as it is romantic, Dopamine is what happens when sunny bohemia meets sequined glam pop.

We would tell you to go head out to Stubbs tonight, but their show is sold out! Missed out on tickets? No worries. BØRNS is coming back to in September alongside The Lumineers at Austin 360 amphitheater. As for tonight, KUTX has got you covered with an exclusive acoustic set courtesy of Studio 1A. Take a listen down below.
