Eddy Hobizal 7.20.16

This is what we got when we asked KUTX Sunday morning jazz host Jay Trachtenberg to describe Eddy Hobizal’s music.“Eddy Hobizal is REALLY good.” Thanks Jay. While maybe not the best description, it certainly is accurate.  Eddy Hobizal moved to Austin in 1999 to grow his budding career as a jazz pianist with skills honed at New York University and Houston’s prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. 15 years on and not only has Hobizal established himself as one of the city’s best pianists, he has taken on production duties for other Austin luminaries like Sara Hickman, David Pulkingham and Elias Haslanger. With his own trio Eddy Hobizal’s piano playing is front and center without overshadowing his equally talented drummer Kyle Thompson and bassist Sam Pankey. Even if you’re not a fan of jazz, this group has something for you, including a fun cover of Tears for Fears’, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”.

If you want to catch Eddy, be sure to see him at Stay Gold July 20 or next month August 18th at Strange Brew and August 25th at Shady Grove!
