Our artist of the month Los Coast plays almost uncategorizable music, a mixture of psychedelic soul with splashes of pop and folk highlighted on their debut album, Samsara, out now on New West Records. After lead singer and guitarist Trey Privott connected with guitarist and keyboardist John Courtney, they eventually found themselves in Austin together and started performing as a duo, eventually filling out the lineup with Damien Llanes on drums, Natalie Wright on keys, and Megan Hartman on bass.
Los Coast became an Austin staple quickly without releasing any music, playing a residency on South Congress at C-Boy’s Heart and Soul and gaining a following big enough to put them on the lineup for ACL Fest back in 2016.
Influenced by his Southern Baptist upbringing, Privott’s vocals range from punchy gospel to slow and soulful grooves, making Los Coast a chameleon of a band- you never quite know what sounds are going to come next. Now, with a full-length debut under their belts, they’re ready to take their unique tunes outside of Austin city limits.
