Even though she’s only 35, Sara Watkins has been on the scene for almost two decades. Sara first came to prominence in progressive string trio Nickel Creek, but since the band’s hiatus ten years ago, she’s been sticking her fingers in pies left and right. From playing with The Decemberists to sitting in with the band at A Praire Home Companion, to forming I’m With Her, a (non-political) group of rising female stars in the bluegrass community, Sara Watkins is a veteran in the scene. Her newest release Young in all the Wrong Ways starts to branch out of the bluegrass music she’s known for into adjacent styles, and she nails it. Each song is more potent and dynamic than the last. Sara Watkins stopped by Studio 1A to show us some tunes, check out the session below!
