Stephen Malkmus 7.25.18

At this point, Stephen Malkmus probably belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of indie rock. As a founding member of the seminal 90s alternative rock group Pavement, Malkmus’ witty, often satirical lyrics left a lasting smirk on the faces of a generation of young people turning away from pop radio. Now, nearly 30 years after that band’s break out album, Malkmus released the 7th album with his new band The Jicks, Sparkle Hard. The new songs stay true to the wit and candor of his earlier days but strip back the rock formula for a more an even more direct approach to some today’s hot-button issues while allowing more room for sonic experimentation. He stopped by Studio 1A with his guitar and played us a few songs from the new album before hitting The Mohawk. Check it out in the player below!
