Cantina: “Hypnotic” (KUTX Premiere)

A band comprised entirely of drummers sounds like the start of a bad joke, but Cantina skips past that beat (ba-dum-tish). It’s something of a North Texas supergroup, featuring John Dufilho (the Deathray Davies, Apples In Stereo), Jason Garner (the Polyphonic Spree), and Philip Peeples (the Old 97’s), alongside the Davies’ Andy Lester and Street Dogs’ Marcus Hollar.

The band members originally released a few albums together as I Love Math, but the new name (and the addition of Hollar) gives them a chance to reboot. “Hypnotic” combines their individual resumes into a succinct package, melding lo-fi pop-rock with a country twang.

“Hypnotic” appears on A Sea Of Keys, out July 22 via We Know Better Records.
