Del Castillo: “En La Media Noche”

All this week, the Song of the Day will feature artists performing at this Saturday’s Pachanga Fest

Austin band Del Castillo began when brothers Rick and Mark del Castillo decided to collaborate, choosing not to play their usual style of rock and instead create something that their parents could relate to. The result was an exciting blend of genres with strong Latin undertones throughout. The band was quickly noticed by director Robert Rodriguez, who included their music on the soundtracks of several of his films, and Quentin Tarantino helped put them in the national spotlight by including a song in Kill Bill Volume 2. The band also found a fan in Willie Nelson, who re-recorded “I Never Cared for You” with Del Castillo, calling it his favorite version of the song.

In 2012, the group announced that singer Alex Ruiz would be leaving the band after twelve years. Enter Grammy-winner Danny Ortiz, who’s been seen fronting the outfit at recent Del Castillo shows. He’s also worked with them in the studio as Del Castillo crafts its sixth album. They’re letting loose a taste with today’s song of the day, “En La Media Noche.”
