Fruit Bats: “The Ruminant Band” (Live In Studio 1A)

Fruit Bats didn’t stay broken up for long. The Chicago band–led by one-time Shins sideman Eric D. Johnson–called it quits in 2013 only to announce earlier this year that they’re back, with a new album on the way. That’s good news: Fruit Bats might have flown under the radar over the past decade, but the group knew its way around a smart, sunny melody, sounding like the Kinks for a new generation.

Even better news: Fruit Bats open both Austin dates with My Morning Jacket, tonight and tomorrow night at the Austin Music Hall. Back in 2009, the Bats stopped by Studio 1A and played a rousing version of “The Ruminant Band.” Six years in the rear-view mirror, it still sounds just as timeless. Download the song below.
