Jonathan Terrell: “Faye”

When he’s not melting faces with Austin’s Not In The Face, singer and guitarist Jonathan Terrell makes music under his own name that’s more spectral. If Not In The Face is his E Street Band, then Terrell’s solo work is his Nebraska: stark, haunting, but still big-hearted.

Terrell’s latest EP, Color Me Lucky, mixes together the country bar with the country at large, sounding like a perfect companion on a stretch of Texas highway. The lonesome pedal steel is the primary color here while Terrell sings about the complications of love and distance. “Faye” tips its cowboy hat to the Replacements’ “Talent Show” and even the swooning drama of Roy Orbison. Terrell’s talent lies here, finding romance at the intersection of old and new.

“Faye” appears on Color Me Lucky EP, out now. Jonathan Terrell plays a release show on Saturday, November 19 at Indian Roller.
