Five years ago, Jonathan Terrell recorded a stark collection of folk tunes called Past The Lights Of Town, but he had to put his solo career on hold. His band Not In The Face exploded out of Austin in 2011 with its, well, in-your-face rock-n-roll. Last year’s self-titled EP got an assist from Bob Ezrin, who’s boosted Pink Floyd, Kiss, and Alice Cooper over the years.
As Not In The Face takes a break from touring, Terrell decided to return to his old songs. Past The Lights Of Town finally gets a proper release this year, and Terrell dusted off a few album cuts live in Studio 1A. “Swingin’ Hammers” comes across like a country origin story, rough around the edges but with a sweet center.
