Leopold And His Fiction: “I’m Caving In”

Daniel James, the dynamic frontman for Austin’s Leopold And His Fiction, likes his music with a little chaos. Growing up in Detroit, James learned from the Motor City’s best madmen like Iggy Pop while soaking up all the R&B and soul he could find. An interest in creative writing took him to San Francisco State University, and there James started writing his own songs. He formed Leopold And His Fiction as a raw, blues-rock two-piece in 2005, but a move to Austin in 2008 found him incorporating more styles.

The band has made a name for itself in the live setting, earning a big nod from American Songwriter for its SXSW 2014 shows. Leopold And His Fiction returns to Austin tomorrow night (Saturday, April 5) with a special show at Cheer Up Charlie’s. The concert benefits SXSW Cares–the fund set up to support the victims of the hit-and-run tragedy at SXSW 2014–with a raffle, featuring prizes like tickets to future shows at ACL Live. Leopold And His Fiction also recently debuted the video for their song “I’m Caving In,” which we’ve got as today’s song of the day. James originally wrote the song as a country tune, but the band added more of an R&B element, turning it into a high-octane ballad of the highest order.

Catch Leopold And His Fiction with Bone, Fur & Feathers at Cheer Up Charlie’s on Saturday, April 5. Show starts at 8pm.
