Lincoln Durham: “Bones” (KUTX Premiere)

Austin’s Lincoln Durham is a one-man-band, and he stumbled on his sound purely by chance. As he recently told KUTX’s Laurie Gallardo, he didn’t have enough money to hire backing musicians, so he made his own using a spare kick drum, his custom guitars, and a lot of guitar amps. Durham follows in the tradition of local solo acts like Shakey Graves, Scott H. Biram, and Possessed By Paul James, but he’s bluesier and grittier. He taps into the ghostly side of blues, where one repeated chord is enough to conjure up a world of sound.

On March 25, Durham releases his new album, Revelations Of A Mind Unraveling. True to its name, it’s a dark record, calling to mind Tom Waits’ guttural style but played with punk abandon. “Bones” is a feverish highlight, showing off the unholy racket that Durham can make all by his lonesome.
