Los Coast: “Simplify”

All this week, the Song of the Day highlights ACL Fest 2016 artists.

Los Coast recently cut its teeth with a Thursday night residency at C-Boy’s and an opening slot for Grupo Fantasma. The Austin band stylistically sits somewhere between these two spaces: there’s a sweaty, beer-soaked urgency to their brand of rock-and-soul, but also a slick professionalism.

The group’s 2016 single “Simplify” does just that, distilling singer Trey Privott’s music background. He grew up listening to Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, and his uncle Hiram Bullock was a fusion jazz guitarist with Sting and Santana. “Simplify” is a horn-driven explosion with gospel undertones, but the synthesizer murmurs give it a spacey edge.

“Simplify” is out now, with a debut EP on the way. See Los Coast at ACL Fest 2016:
