Low Cut Connie: “Shake It Little Tina”

Over the next two weeks, the Song of the Day features SXSW 2016 artists.

Sometimes the best SXSW shows are the simplest: old-school rock-and-roll played with sweaty abandon, preferably in a too-crowded dive bar. Philadelphia’s Low Cut Connie just might fit the bill this year. Everyone from The New York Times to President Obama (SXSW synergy alert!) loves this band, but don’t let all that high-brow fandom fool you. Last year’s Hi Honey is lowdown and fun, smashing together Exile-era Rolling Stones with a little rockabilly swagger. They even tour with their own beat-up piano/mascot, dubbed Shondra. She shares the spotlight on “Shake It Little Tina,” a song about cross-dressing because the music’s so good. Hey, it’s SXSW–anything can happen. Listen to the song below.
