Megafauna: “Desire”

Austin’s Megafauna have kept things heavy and weird for close to a decade now. They sit at the intersection of metal and psychedelia, so Black Sabbath is an adequate reference point. But Megafauna reach skyward a lot more often, spiking their earthy grooves with cloudy atmospherics.

“Desire”–the first taste from Welcome Home, out May 27–shifts between these two sides constantly, caught between a dream-state and a white-knuckled ride. “I couldn’t sleep and every time I closed my eyes I saw a seemingly infinite string of disturbing faces, each expanding out from the last,” guitarist and singer Dani Neff says. “I sat down at my guitar and the song just flowed out of me.”

Catch Megafauna live at Uncle Billy’s Brewery & Smokehouse on Sunday, April 3, kicking off our free KUTX Live series.
