“Let’s take the long way home,” Mutual Benefit’s Jordan Lee sings on “Lost Dreamers.” Home is a fluid concept for him; he’s a rambler, bouncing between Austin, Boston, and Brooklyn over the past few years. Lee’s songs also meander, suspended somewhere between folk confessional and grand, DIY-orchestral suites.
“Lost Dreamers”–from Skip A Sinking Stone, out May 20–is the sharpest thing Lee’s written while still staying resolutely dreamy. The song sits side-by-side with Sufjan Stevens’ more intimate creations, seizing on something beautiful and holding tight.
