The Black Angels: “Grab As Much (As You Can)” (Live At The Four Seasons)

A decade ago, the Black Angels’ droning darkness felt at odds with a lot of Austin (and national) music. But with a festival and record label to go along with their signature sound, the Angels have aged into elder-statesman (or maybe that’s elder-shaman) status while helping spearhead a psychedelic revival. If anything, the band has only gotten darker with time, but their songs have also gotten bigger and better, capable of blowing up a festival or, in last week’s case, a Four Seasons ballroom. Live at SXSW, the Angels tried out songs from their upcoming fifth album, Death Song. “Grab As Much (As You Can)” is as brooding as anything in the band’s pummeling discography, but guitarist Christian Bland throws in an earwormy riff that sounds like shivers down a spine. Watch a video of the performance below.

“Grab As Much (As You Can)” appears on Death Song, out April 21.
