The Golden Boys have long been Austin’s answer to the Rolling Stones or the Replacements, barrelling through the sleazier sides of R&B, country, punk, and blues. In short, they’re a rock and roll band, through and through.
Better Than Good Times is album number six from the Boys, and it wears its boyish charm on a tattered sleeve. “Sundays With Jackie” spikes its distortion with a sweet and lamenting hook. The Boys haven’t grown up, and Austin music is all the better for it.
“Sundays With Jackie” appears on Better Than Good Times, out Friday, November 17 via 12XU. The Golden Boys play Studio 1A today at 3 p.m., End Of An Ear on Friday, November 17 at 6 p.m., and Barracuda on Saturday, November 18.
