All this week, the Song of the Day highlights ACL Fest 2015 artists.
Anybody can surprise-release a digital-only album these days, but the Heavenly States decided to go the opposite route. The band recently dropped a vinyl-only triple album called HISS–-no downloads, no CDs, just some old-fashioned polyvinyl chloride discs. It’s a thumb in the eye of contemporary music culture and low attention spans, but also one for the super-fans that have been around since the band’s Bay Area formation over a decade ago.
Of course, the irony of a free download here isn’t lost on the band, which now calls Austin home.“It’s our ‘if we never do anything ever again at least we did this’ record,” their website reads. There’s a similar urgency to the music, especially on the wiry, punk-inflected “The Specialist.” Download the song below and grab the full vinyl experience here.
