For over a decade, the Rocketboys have straddled the line between commercialism and DIY, earning airplay on Glee and One Tree Hill and working with producer Joe Chiccarelli (the Strokes, the Killers, Spoon) while also maintaining a home studio in Austin. Certain Circles, the band’s new album, is something of a “Venn diagram,” a back-to-basics record that nonetheless keeps its eyes pointed skyward. “Stone” shows off the Rocketboys’ anthemic sound, somewhere between Pink Floyd’s sci-fi rock and Death Cab For Cutie’s heart-on-sleeve pop.
