Wiretree: “Another Time” (Live In Studio 1A)

Wiretree set themselves apart from a lot of Austin bands by swinging for the melodic fences. Frontman Kevin Peroni is an unabashed fan of pop–his upcoming My KUTX is peppered with the likes of E.L.O., the Mamas & the Papas, and Brendan Benson–and his songs are big, bouncy, and sunny, even though Wiretree started as a solo, somewhat introverted bedroom folk project. Over the years, Peroni has built a hell of a rock band, blossoming on the one-two punch of 2011’s Make Up and 2013’s Get Up.

Wiretree’s 2007 debut album Bouldin (yes, that’s a local landmark shout-out) gets its own place at the table with a recent vinyl reissue. Even from the start, all of Wiretree’s elements were firmly in place: snappy hooks, sing-along choruses, and a Shins-like sparkle. The band recently stopped by Studio 1A to talk about the album, but they threw us a curveball by debuting a brand new song. “Another Time” has one foot in the past and another tapping its toe towards the future.
