YATTE: “Time Wasted” [PREMIERE]

Between the recent announcement of Yacht Rock Revue’s debut original album and the continued cult appreciation for the Yacht Rock web series, this retroactive label has not only become a household phrase, but indeed a set of ’70s-style sounds enjoying an unexpected but certainly not unwanted resurgence. On the local level, you may remember the Michael McDonald-esque synth player-producer-vocalist Alex Chod, who aside from his continued contributions to Midcentury, has recently rebranded his oceanic pop rock project Wonderbitch under the decidedly less uncouth name, YATTE (pronounced like an elegant, aquatic latte/”Yacht-Tay”).

With Chod still at the captain’s helm, YATTE revisits vibes made famous by the likes of Hall & Oates and Loggins and Messina, albeit with waves of modern production in a lavish, exotic sea of synth work. YATTE has just shared news of their debut full-length Shadow Work for a 2020 release, but moor your Monday with a pair of colored shades and some salt water breeze on the album opener and debut single, “Time Wasted”!
