Yohuna: “The Moon Hangs in the Sky Like Nothing Hangs in the Sky”

Melodic like the Cranberries, lo-fi and lovely like Mazzy Star, Yohuna (pseudonym of Brooklyn’s Johanne Swanson) crafts music to soothe your inner-savage beast. The ambient sound is made of transparent layers that can be picked-out individually, but weave together with upward, optimistic purpose. “The Moon Hangs…” doesn’t build over time; it begins and ends with its full deluge of layers with a confident, but understated energy. Swanson’s haunting, siren-like vocals complement the weightlessness of the music—a sensation translated to the listener, who leaves the song wondering what they were doing or thinking about five minutes ago.

“The Moon Hangs In The Sky Like Nothing Hangs In The Sky” appears on Patientnessout September 9th via Orchid Tapes.
