Amy Winehouse Foundation Wants Your Back to Black Covers

The Amy Winehouse Foundation is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the singer’s Back to Black album with a cover contest. Contest hopefuls can submit videos of their cover of one of four tracks from Back to Black with the official backing track provided by the Foundation. The judges for the competition are the album’s producers, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, making the competition that much more exciting. But what of the prize, you ask? One lucky fan will get to record their cover in a studio with Ronson and Remi. All contest funds will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which offers music education and therapy to help young people work through issues with homelessness, mental health, and drug and alcohol addiction. Full contest rules can be found here. (MTV)

Capitol Records Announces 3-Pronged Celebration for 75th Anniversary

Capitol Records turns 75 this year, and an anniversary that big deserves a proportional celebration, and they’ve done just that. Capitol Records has announced its tri-fold plan for celebrating eight decades, which includes music, film, and literature. For starters, you can pre-order a copy of 75 Years of Capitol Records, a photograph and essay book with a foreword by Beck that follows the evolution of the record label since its founding in 1942. Their second endeavor is a year-long vinyl reissue campaign featuring 75 albums from Capitol’s eras and genres. Capitol worked with music journalists, authors, and other renowned creative figures to finalize the list, which includes Coldplay, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and Katy Perry. The label’s final endeavor is a Capitol Records docuseries produced by Nigel Sinclair’s Whitehorse Pictures set for a fall 2017 release, focused on digging deep in the label’s archives to tell the story of America’s wild love affair with popular music, and how Capitol Records has been pivotal in that romance.
